Quick Low-Carb Keto Bang Bang Shrimp
For dinner, I had a craving for some bang bang shrimp. I love this dish at Dave’s Fish Market, and I really enjoyed the similar version of the shrimp I had in a restaurant in Florida last month. When we discussed the dish with the waiter in Florida, he said that the sauce was a simple combo of mayo, sweet and hot thai sauce and hot sauce.
I looked up the recipe for bang bang shrimp online and came up with my own keto version.
- 1 1/2 cups of mayo
- 1 tbsp sweet/hot chili
- 1 tsp srirachi sauce
I sautéed a pound of shrimp in 1 tsp of butter mixed with 1 tbsp olive oil for 4 minutes. When finished, I coated with the sauce and let it simmer about one minute.
The picture doesn’t do it justice. My son said it looks like mac and cheese. Next time I make it – and I WILL make this again! – I will separate the shrimp and make it more attractive like they do at the restaurant. It wasn’t quite spicy enough for me, so I drizzled a little more srirachi over the top. YUM
Just tried this, however it was way too mayo for me and not enough spice. I think I will use
1 tbsp sweet chili
1 tbsp sriracha
I also made this into tacos, using low carb- high fiber tortilla wraps and shredded coleslaw mix (plain)
I’d like to try this, but I dont know what the sweet/hot chili is. Is it a powder, or solid chili pieces?
Cayla – It is usually sold in the Asian section of a grocery store. The label usually says something like sweet chili sauce. It is sold in Jars.
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Mae-Ploy-Sweet-Chili-Sauce/dp/B000H1AWSC/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1459206867&sr=8-6&keywords=sweet+and+spicy+chili+sauce
This looks really good. what is the carb and sugar count.
Hi, I would also like to know the nutrition values. Thanks
I took note of Sarah’s comment and I significantly cut down the mayo. It was delicious!
looks yummy but hate mayo maybe i would use cream cheese yum
HOW MANY CARBS????
How is this kept with sweet chili sauce? That has sugar in it.
That should say KETO!!
I agree with Stef. I got some Chili paste with the rooster on it and will sweeten with Stevia.
If you dont like mayo or cant have it for diet reasons I make mine with greek yogurt instead and its amazing plus cuts way back on the calories.
Each sauce and each Mayo has a different nutritional value.
Most shrimp or prawn packets will tell you the nutritional value of the seafood too.
sweet chili sauce has about 40-50 grams net carbs per tablespoon, which is NOT keto. i’m going to try to make my own low carb sweet chili sauce from a recipe i found on pinterest that uses swerve.

The sugars in the chili sauces vary. Mae Ploy has 16 net carbs per 2 tablespoons. Not bad for using one tablspoon.
I am not a fan of mayo and greek yogurt is so-so for me. I wonder how it would taste to substitute sour cream for the mayo?
Becareful on sugars it contains. It’s called “spicy mayo” at Japanese Restaurants. Try dry chili, the ones u get at Italian Restaurants. There’s also Olive Oil Mayo if you’re not a mayo lover.
In Trader Joe’s sweet chili sauce there are 5 sugars & 6 carbs per serving.
Omg! This just saved me from spiraling out of control! I added the sauce and shrimp to some cole slaw…… BOOM!
